  • The International Labour Organisation (ILO)
  • The European Union Employment Council
  • The South African Context (NEDLAC, Bargaining Councils, CCMA)
  • Impact Analysis (PESTEL)

Post Module Assignments:

  • 1. Self, Other & Social Contexts
  • 2. Problem Solving, Creative Thinking and Decision Making
  • 3. The Future of Labour Law in SA – the next 10 years

Block 2 (4 Days):

Credits: 27

Managing the Systems Way:

  • Describe the components and linkages of a system
  • Describe two systems in your organisation and analyse one of these in detail
  • Develop and explain a method for improving a system
  • Develop a check list for analysing problems systematically

Management of Technology:

  • Analyse and describe the key technology platforms driving your organisation
  • Develop a check list for managing these technologies effectively
  • Discuss the impact of new technology in your organisation
  • Compile an action plan for implementing technological change

Presentation by student groups:

  • The future of Labour Law in SA  ‐ the next 10 years

Post Module Assignments:

  • 4. Managing the Systems Way

Block 3 (5 Days):

Credits: 40

Integration into existing labour law & the development of new laws:

  • Overview of the Constitution
  • The Acts (LRA, EEA, SDA, BCEA)

Management of Innovation:

  • Outline and describe the tactics for managing innovation
  • Define and discuss two approaches to creativity and ideation capable of explaining the difference between creativity and innovation
  • Analyse a process within the organisation suggesting innovative improvements

Management of People:

  • Design a high performing work‐team within your organisation
  • Design appropriate measurement criteria for your team
  • Implement a people performance project within your department
  • Explain diversity in an African context
  • Suggest improvements for managing people in your operations

  • 6. The relationship between the major labour themes and the impact on labour law and associated institutions
