Lebone House, Grahamstown

“Because Children Matter”

Located in a previously disadvantaged area within the Grahamstown community, the Lebone House provides aftercare facilities and an enrichment programme for children in dire need.

After school, the staff at the centre provides a nutritious meal (often the only meal of the day) followed by homework support. The programme also provides emotional and spiritual support and the transfer of essential life skills under the supervision of a social worker.

The Lebone Literacy Programme is aimed at increasing literacy levels among school-going children. Reading ability provides the basis for further educational development and, in addition to offering reading workshops and a library service, the Centre’s staff and volunteers target young and expectant mothers at Clinics to highlight the importance of encouraging literacy from an early age.

Global Business Solutions is proud to be associated with these programmes.

In support of National Library Week the Lebone Centre recently launched a custom-designed Book Box which was purchased with funds donated by Global Business Solutions.  The children of the Little Red Dragon Preschool and the After-Care Enrichment Programme waited with great anticipation as the ribbon was cut, and then fell with excitement upon the colourful new books that were revealed.

Article date:  23 April 2014

It is the intention of the Lebone Literacy Programme to use the Shine Book Box in a variety of ways: for story hours in the Preschool, during the Nal’ibali Reading Club sessions for the After-Care children and for its Moms & Tots programme.
